History

John J. Gallagher opened his first piano store in Detroit, Gallagher Music Company, in 1931. The business expanded with a second store in Pontiac which sold organs, records and televisions, and a third location in Royal Oak. The Pontiac store moved to Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Hills in 1965, selling only pianos and organs. In 1957 Ben Evola joined his brother-in-law, J.J. Gallagher, Jr., who had taken over the company. Ben Evola acquired ownership of the Bloomfield Hills store in 1974 and changed the name to Evola Music.

Today

Evola Music has three retail locations and a service center, and Jim Evola has owned the company since 2003. In 2008 an affiliate location in Traverse City was added, owned by Chris Selby.

Jim and his dedicated staff of over 30 coworkers carry on the rich family tradition of his father and grandfather that has continued since 1931!
